Purpose:
This SOP outlines how to set up and use the GMU tablets, allowing GMU students to purchase food and pay using their Mason Money at select locations.
Participating Locations:
- Velocity Bar + Kitchen – Fairfax
- Big Buns – Fairfax
- Big Buns – Ballston
- Wiseguy Pizza – Rosslyn
- Milk & Honey – Manassas
Setting Up Your Tablet:
You should have the following equipment:
- Android Tablet
- USB-C to UBC-C Cable
- Power Adapter
- Card Reader
- Multiport Adapter
Below is how the equipment should be connected:
Please make sure you connect this device to your Ops or Corp network (do not connect to this to the POS network) and set this up next to a POS terminal.
Ordering Workflow:
If a student asks to pay using their Mason Money, let them know we accept it, provide a copy of the GMU Student Meals menu, and follow the steps below to ring in the order.
- Sign in to the GMU tablet using the passcode: 69153
- From the home screen of the tablet, open the app for your specific location, click the "Transactions" button in the top right corner, and have the student tap their card on the green card reader. You do not need to hit the submit button.
- If the transaction was successful, you will see the student's name and photo appear without any error messages. If successful, continue to step 5.
- If the student does not have funds on their card, you will see a note saying denied in big red letters at the top of the screen. If denied, please let the student know they do not have enough funds and do not continue to step 5.
- In Toast, navigate to the GMU Student Menu and ring in the requested item, but do not go to the checkout screen yet.
- Continuing in Toast, navigate to the “Set Tab Name” field and enter the student’s name, making sure it matches exactly what is shown on the GMU tablet.
- Once finished, navigate to the payment screen. Select “Other Payments,” then choose “GMU Mason Money.”
Important Notes:
- Always use the GMU Student Meals menu—this payment type only applies to items on that menu.
- Mason Money is limited to one meal per student, per day, per swipe/transaction.
- Each Mason Money transaction must be placed on its own Toast check.
- Any additional items must be rung in on a separate check and paid with cash or card from the regular menu.
- GMU Mason Money payments require a manager card swipe to complete the transaction.
